Semester Survival Guide

Your WMU Libraries can help get you through. 

Extended hours at Waldo are Friday and Saturday, April 19 - 20 open till midnight, with 24 hours continuing 5 days, Sunday - Thursday, April 21 - 25 midnight. Detailed hours listing.
Snacks are provided periodically during finals week by Western Student Association in the Waldo lobby.

Group Study Rooms and Project Spaces

7 rooms in Waldo, 6 in Swain Education Library, and 1 in Maybee Music Library are available for online reservations 2 hours at a time. Current WMU students, in groups of three or more, are eligible to request the use of group study rooms for academic study. Most have larger monitors to share presentations and files.

Makerspace on second floor, Waldo, is a space for working out prototypes with the Innovations student club.


White boards are available throughout the 3 main campus libraries with markers available at each Service Desk.

Graduate Student Commons

The Graduate Student Commons is the first dedicated space on main campus for graduate students to gather, collaborate, and study. Graduate students are now able to take full advantage of the newly-refreshed space with study pods, group study rooms, enhanced computers, large tables for collaboration, lounge style seating and many power ports. Graduate students have access by swiping their Bronco Card.

The Graduate College is supporting the effort with finals-time snacks, Mon - Thurs, April 22 - 25, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.


Quiet Study Spaces

Each floor in Waldo has quiet spaces toward the back. The third floor is mostly all quiet space. Swain Education Library has a separate quiet study room.

Our Librarians can help you get the articles and resources you need with a consultation. Easy appointments are available for your subject area. Or, you can call, text, or email with a question.

The Writing Center from across campus has Sunday evening hours in Waldo, first floor: 5-8 pm. on a drop in basis.


New Cafe in Waldo

Open extended hours for finals 4 pm - midnight, on the first floor Sun. - Thurs. Featuring coffees, teas and a variety of bottled drinks; prepared sandwiches and salads; bakery items from the Brown and Gold Bakery and a wide variety of snacks.

On the lower level the vending machines and microwave are always available.

- Equipment checkout: like phone charger cords and headphones

- Virtual Reality Lab, lower level Waldo, has many titles for active study breaks
