Open Access Week, What it Means for Faculty/Students

The international event is promoting a concept that is becoming more important to students and faculty. Open Access of information will:
  • increase access to knowledge
  • promote a new publishing model, open to all
  • improve collaboration
  • reduce textbook costs
  • raise your research visibility
A global event now in its 10th year, promoting Open Access as the new default in scholarship and research is what the week of awareness is all about. During October 23 - 29, 2017 University Libraries is helping promote awareness of the concept by bringing a display to the Bernhard Center that week. Information from the Open Education 2017 conference will be shared by the ScholarWorks librarian, Maira Bundza.

The WMU institutional repository, ScholarWorks at WMU, is an Open Access repository to showcase the scholarly and creative efforts of our faculty and students. It contains thousands of items: books, conference proceedings, department and unit publications, journals, dissertation and theses. Over 4.5 million items have been downloaded worldwide since it began in 2011.
